Isometric view

A page on Clockwork Chilli's site says that there is a plug-in for wade to add an isometric view to your game. The question is: where is this plugin?

While i have already started to make my own realization of Isometrics i also would like to know if there is an Isometric plugin made by Clockwork Chilli

Yes we do have an isometric plug-in for WADE, which we used to make our game Zirma among other things. I think it's quite nice, it also includes pathfinding on the isometric grid and is generally pretty fast.

However we haven't released this yet, purely because we haven't had time to tidy up the code and work on the documentation. At present, it's completely undocumented, and we didn't really want to release a plug-in that people wouldn't know how to use - when we release it, it's going to come with some examples and a complete description of all the interface.

The plan is to release the isometric plug-in (with some other plug-in's) together with the WADE 1.0 release. So not too far off in the future, but it's going to be a little while.

I think the isometric plug-in will be great, I need this too.

Can you tell us if it will be released for free?

That's great news :)

Well I'm happy that some people may want to use it :)

Regarding whether it's going to be free - that's a good question. The short answer is: it's certainly going to be free for you guys.

Longer answer:

The WADE engine is and will always be free for indie developers. Some additional and optional components (like visual editors, and some of the plug-in's) may be made available at a very reasonable price. However, early adopters like you (people who have been using WADE before the 1.0 release) will be offered a chance to get these things for free.

When that is not possible, for example for plug-in's developed by other developers that want to charge users for them, we'll make sure that you will be offered them at a heavily discounted price.

For the isometric plug-in in particular, I'm pretty sure that we'll be able to give it for free to you guys.

ok, it's good to be an early adopter. This is good news, because I am poor, but I want to use the isometric plug-in

Can't wait to get my hands on this one. Most engines & libraries I've tried are great for doing platformers and other action games. I prefer boardgames, rpg and simple strategy, will be nice to see if Wade is more suitable for me.

Welcome to the forums elwis!

I hope you'll find what you're looking for. It sounds like the isometric plug-in will be useful to you, hopefully it won't be long before it's released.

For top-down board games, there should already be everything you need... but if there's something missing just let us know and we'll do our best to help.

Hi

What's the status of the plugin?

I can't find it in the 1.0 release or in the docs. Any input on the release date?

Gio

Hi thomas

Yes, as stated in a different thread, it should be available before the end of the month (although the map editor may take a bit longer). It will be worth the wait though :)
